Festive Sparkle

Here we are, in that somewhat curious time between the holidays and the start of a new year. It seems like a good moment to share this little mini polish photo project I recently completed.

KimettKolor Festive Sparkle Nail Polish Collage

This image is created solely with nail polish bottles (and a camera...and a couple photo apps). There are no nails in this post, but if you're still interested to see behind the scenes, then the rest is for you.

My motivation for creating this design was spurred by a daily photo challenge on Instagram (that I shamefully did not complete). There were 31 prompts for the month of December focused on the central theme of Festive. I created this photo collage for the specific prompt of Sparkle.

Being the good nail-polish-addict that I am, I like to include my love for these liquid color concoctions in lots of non-nail related activities. So - what's more sparkly than glitter? Glitter polish! Of course.

These are the seven bottles of polish I picked out of my collection:

Left to Right, Top Row

  • Serenity
  • You Can't Take The Sky From Me
  • Terrifying Space Monkeys
  • I Aim To Misbehave

        by Pirate Princess Polish

Left to Right, Bottom Row

  • Fight the Sugarplum Faeries!

        by Supernatural Lacquer

  • Plastic Fruit
  • The Twinkle In Their Eyes

        by 2-Bit Polish

I started off by taking a close-up picture of each bottle. I would rotate the bottle in the air, getting the glitters to swirl around. Then, immediately after putting it down on my table I would take the picture. I wanted the effect of movement to be in part of the image I would ultimately use.

Here is an example of my initial photos:

Then using photo software, I cropped out the bottle edges so that the whole image was just the polish inside the bottle.

Here are the seven photos that make up the different sections in the collage (in the same order as listed above):

Aren't those photos cool?? They may not be perfect, but they're interesting anyway. I've been having fun using them as background images on my cell phone.

And, just so that you don't have to scroll back up to the top, here's the final result after importing the pictures into a collage template:

It was a fun project and I enjoyed combining my interests in colors, photography, and nail polish. If I left anything out, or you have any questions, let me know in the comments below. To see more of my photos on Instagram, you can check out my personal page @just.kim.here. (Although, I did post this photo on my nail art page @kimettkolor as well.)

So what do you think? Did you enjoy a post without nails?

Till Next Time,
Kimett
