Luck of the Irish Charm

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

KimettKolor Saint Patricks Day Lucky13 Nail Polish

Wait. What? It's past the middle of March already - jeesh!

If you've been following me on social media, you already know that Mr. Kimett and I have sprung into Spring home repairs in full force; therefore, nail painting has taken a bit of a back seat. But - I'm still excited to share a quick polish/color combo that I put on yesterday in the midst of the bangs of a jack-hammer and the singing of a very vocal plumber! Intrigued by the awesome polish or the home owner saga? Either way, I hope you read on...

So, this post doesn't feature any nail art - just fun in putting different polishes together to make a "theme". In fact, this green & gold skittlette plan was born the day I clicked on the purchase button for the two featured Lucky 13 Lacquer polishes. It's been in the back of my mind as an expedient  option to celebrate the holiday should I not have time for art. Boy...was I ever clairvoyant that day!!

Even though neither of these polishes were meant to be, or inspired by, the Irish celebration, I used them for my photo entry to the giveaway that Lucky13Lacquers held on Instagram - check out my festive entry here.

The green glitter polish is called Too Smart for the Likes of You. The inspiration comes from the character Peridot from Steven Universe. This polish is in the "We Are the Crystal Gems" collection and as of posting is a current stock. Here is a description of the animated TV series on the Cartoon Network:
The Crystal Gems are a team of magical beings who are the self-appointed guardians of the universe. Half-human, half-Gem hero Steven is the "little brother" of the group. The goofball is learning to save the world using the magical powers that come from his bellybutton and he goes on magical adventures with the rest of the Crystal Gems, even though he's not as powerful -- or smart -- as fellow group members Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl. Despite his shortcomings, Steven usually finds a surprising way to save the day. (Google)
Too Smart for the Likes of You has a sheer shimmery green base with holographic triangles (which I failed to capture on camera because my last coat covered them up, bummer!), and dark green & golden holographic square glitters.

The gold glitter topper has ultra fine golden glitter with a holographic edge (my words) in a clear base and is called Sister Golden Hair. It instantly jumped out at me as a versatile addition for many future design needs. If memory serves, this was a limited run polish.

I really feel like I've followed the leprechaun to his pot of gold - look at that glow!

All photos from beginning of post to this point were taken inside with daylight bulbs and flash.

Any flaws (like bubbling) you may notice are entirely user fault. I was rushed and interrupted during this painting session. All products behaved nicely.

The photos above and below were taken outdoors under indirect daylight / sunshine which gave the glitters a softer look in the pictures and showed off the shimmers too.

By the way, if you're at all a geek and like fandom inspired polishes (or love polish...is there anyone left?), I do hope you'll check out Lucky13 Lacquer. This one-woman-show brand has been in play for several years and I can predict you'll be happy with any polish you purchase. I started with many of her Firefly/Serenity polishes and have added many more to my stash. Also, her top coats are very highly recommended - I'll be trying them soon - Elemental Ward (quick-dry glossy) and We're All Matte Here (matte).

So, what's going on at our house, you ask? Well, to make a long story short, our house was beginning to have a moat. Not really, I'm exaggerating for humor. The area we live in has a high water table and we wanted (more like needed) to upgrade our house's exterior drainage system. The process is about 1/3 of the way done as I am typing this. Here's a quick pic I took a few days ago:

You didn't really expect home construction photos did you? This is a nail blog after all. LOL

What are you doing to celebrate this day?

For me, I'm going to reminisce about a trip I went on with my sister to Ireland many (many) years ago. And, as a nice way to wrap up a St. Patrick's Day post, I will share with you a collage of pictures taken of the Emerald Isle (and our route there):

I hope to be able to keep painting in between the craziness at our place over the next week or so....

One last thought....anyone ever see a lady Leprechaun?

Till Next Time,
Kimett
